Free Download | Physics Modeling for Game Programmers

Written By share_e on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 | Wednesday, May 04, 2011

Programmers who want to include 3D math and physics in a game have to wade through physics textbooks and dreary tomes on linear algebra and group theory, only to find that the material is too abstract to be used directly in their games. This book gives readers the skills they want and need to incorporate real physics into their games.

As they work through the book, they will constantly develop tools, demos, and working games. The highly graphical demos ensure that instead of just reading about how to calculate the trajectory of a projectile, the reader will actually see a canon firing rounds toward the front lines.

From the successful Game Development series, this book thoroughly addresses the specific needs of game developers.

This document is designed to be used in conjunction with the information in the online Flash ActionScript Dictionary in the Flash MX Help menu. To write Macromedia Flash  Communication Server MX applications, you must be familiar with writing ActionScript in general. Refer to that document for general scripting information, and use this document to add Flash Communication Server functionality to your Flash applications. For an overview of the Flash Communication Server objects, see Developing Applications with Flash Communication Server. Entries in this document are alphabetical by class name and then by method, property, or event handler name. The following table lists all classes, methods, properties, and event handlers individually in alphabetical order.

Free Download | ActionScript Dictionary

This dictionary describes the syntax and use of ActionScript elements in Macromedia Flash MX. To use examples in a script, copy the example code from the ActionScript Dictionary and paste it in the Actions panel in expert mode. The dictionary lists all ActionScript elements—operators, keywords, statements, actions, properties, functions, objects, components, and methods. For an overview of all dictionary entries, see “Contents of the dictionary” on page 23; the tables in this section are a good starting point for looking up symbolic operators or methods whose object or component class you don’ tknow. ActionScript follows the ECMA-262 Standard (the specification written by the European Computer Manufacturers Association) unless otherwise noted. Some Flash 5 (and earlier) ActionScript elements have been deprecated and replaced with new ActionScript elements that correspond to the ECMA Standard. It is recommended that you use the new Flash MX elements, although deprecated elements are still supported by Flash Player 5.

Free Download | Photoshop CS All-in-One Desk Reference for Dummies

Written By share_e on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 | Wednesday, March 23, 2011

There’s a reason why Photoshop is the world’s industry standard in image-editing software. The depth and breadth of the program is unheralded. Photoshop immediately sucks you in with its easy-to-use interface and powerful tools and commands. It is so feature rich that you soon begin to lose track of time and start blowing off your commitments just to try one more thing. And just when you think you’ve finally explored every nook and cranny and mastered the program, you suddenly read a tip in a book or magazine that enlightens you about something you didn’t know. Or even more likely, you stumble upon some great effect while working on a late-night project. That’s the beauty of Photoshop. It’s the program that just keeps giving. The depth and breadth of Photoshop has downsides, too, of course. You must make a major time commitment and invest much effort to master it — hence the large number of books written on the program. Walk into your neighborhood bookstore or type Photoshop in the Search field at any online bookseller’s site, and you’ll see a barrage of choices. Some books are general reference books, some are targeted toward the novice user, and others focus on a specific mission, such as color management or restoration and retouching.

Free Download | Mac For Dummies

If you bought a Mac, you’re unbelievably smart (or lucky). You’ve neatly eliminated much of the hassle, frustration, and annoyance that normally comes with buying a computer. You have a computer that doesn’t just look a heck of a lot better than other kinds of computers — it works better, too, because both its hardware and its software were designed by a single company. And not a single computer virus has yet surfaced that can affect the Mac’s operating software. (You know how your friends and your newspaper are always going on about viruses and hackers? They’re talking about Windows computers. The Mac doesn’t do Windows.) The Mac also has everything you need built in: a modem (so you can use the Internet and e-mail), a CD burner (great for making backups), or even a DVD burner (for preserving your home movies on DVD), and a huge assortment of free programs. If the Mac is so simple, then who needs a book about it?

We’re fairly smart people, and presumably you’re a really smart person (you are looking at the right book, after all), but it still seems like technology has eclipsed our ability to understand it. Even the magical Mac — the symbol of all things easy in computers — is overladen with features and gadgets and pretty lights. Make no mistake: We all like features and gadgets and pretty lights, but how are we supposed to make sense of it all and just do what we want to do, quickly and easily? By reading this book, of course! But if that isn’t enough to convince you (and we can’t imagine why not; after all, we’ve never lied to you before), take a moment or two to read through this Introduction. You’ll see where we’re coming from, what this book offers, and how it’ll make you fall in love with your Mac all over again.  The Timesaving Techniques For Dummies books focus on high-payoff techniques that save you time, either on the spot or somewhere down the road. And these books get to the point in a hurry, with step-by-step instructions to pace you through the tasks you need to do, without any of the fluff you don’t want. We’ve identified more than 60 Techniques that Mac OS X Panther users need to know to make the most of their time. In addition, each Technique includes lots of figures that make following along a breeze.

Welcome to Firewalls For Dummies, a book written to help the average Joe understand how firewalls work and how to configure a firewall. This book meets the needs of the person just finding out about computers, as well as the network administrator who needs to implement his or her first firewall. But what is a firewall, you may ask? The quick-and-dirty definition is that a firewall is a boundary network device that resides between a private network and the Internet. The firewall is configured to inspect the network traffic that passes between the Internet and your network and only allows the network protocols that you desire to pass through the firewall. If a protocol isn’t included in the approved list, the firewall discards the packets of data and prevents them from entering the network. Firewalls bring to mind visions of the computer geek at the office, sitting in a darkened closet with his router and handy toolkit, warding off hackers as they attack from the Internet. This book attempts to shed some light on thesubject by breaking down the myths around the firewall so that you can understand what a firewall does and how it’s configured.

Free Download | Network Control And Engineering For Qos, Security And Mobility, III

This volume contains the proceedings of the Third International Conference on Network Control and Engineering for Quality of Service, Security and Mobility (Net-Con’2004), celebrated in Palma de Mallorca (Illes Balears, Spain) during November 2-5, 2004. This IFIP TC6 Conference was organized by the Universitat de les Illes Balears and sponsored by the following Working Groups: WG6.2 (Network and Internetwork Architectures), WG6.6 (Management of Networks and Distributed Systems), WG6.7 (Smart Networks) and WG6.8 (Mobile and Wireless Communications). The rapid evolution of the networking industry introduces new exciting challenges that need to be explored by the research community. The adoption of Internet as the global network infrastructure places the issue of quality of service among one of the hot topics nowadays: a huge diversity of applications with quite different service requirements must be supported over a basic core of protocols. Also, the open and uncontrolled nature of Internet enforces the need to guarantee secure transactions among users, thus placing security as another hot topic. Finally, the explosion of mobility and its integration as part of the global infrastructure are probably now the most challenging issues in the networking field.

Free Download | TI-83 Plus Graphing Calculator For Dummies

Although this book does not tell you how to do everything the calculator is capable of doing, it gets pretty close. It covers more than just the basics of using the calculator, paying special attention to warning you of the problems you could encounter if you knew only the basics of using the calculator. This is a reference book. It’s process-driven, not applicationdriven.

You won’t be given a problem to solve and then be told how to use the calculator to solve that particular problem. Instead, you’re given the steps needed to get the calculator to perform a particular task, such as constructing a histogram. This book is designed so that you do not have to read it from cover to cover.

You don’t even have to start reading at the beginning of a chapter. When you want to know how to get the calculator to do something, just start reading at the beginning of the appropriate section. The Index and Table Of Contents should help you find whatever you’re looking for.

Free Download | Windows XP For Dummies

Don’t try to read this book in one sitting; there’s no need. Instead, treat this book like a dictionary or an encyclopedia. Turn to the page with the information you need and say, “Ah, so that’s what they’re talking about.” Then put down the book and move on.  Don’t bother trying to remember all the Windows XP buzzwords, such as “Select the menu item from the drop-down list box.” Leave that stuff for the computer gurus. In fact, if anything technical comes up in a chapter, a road sign warns you well in advance. That way, you can either slow down to read it or speed on around it. You won’t find any fancy computer jargon in this book. Instead, you’ll find subjects like these, discussed in plain old English. Something in Windows XP will eventually leave you scratching your head. No other program brings so many buttons, bars, and babble to the screen. When something in Windows XP has you stumped, use this book as a reference.
